BRITISH VALUES

We are committed to actively promoting British Values ensuring that our children grow and develop into well-rounded, informed members of the community prepared for life in modern Britain.  
Through our curriculum we actively promote the fundamental British values of:

• Democracy
• The Rule of Law
• Individual Liberty
• Mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

Our children are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.  
Many of these values are promoted on a regular basis through our curriculum and not necessarily through specific lessons. 

Mutual Respect and Tolerance

We teach the children about the 5 largest religions; Christianity, Sikhism, Islam, Hinduism and Judaism. Prejudice is always challenged and children are free to question things they have heard or been told.
We love to celebrate key religious holidays such as Eid, Diwali, Christmas and Easter. All children within school take part in the celebrations and learn the reasons behind the celebration.
Within our community, we have links with the local church, Sikh temple and local mosques, where the children are able to visit and ask questions related to the place of worship and religion.

Democracy

Across the school we aim to develop a 'democratic classroom' where we can promote inclusion, voice, representation and participation.  
Children are taught to think critically and are encouraged to debate as part of their learning across the key stage. Our Votes for Schools sessions teach children to voice their opinions and express their views.

Rule of Law

Children are taught from an early age the rules of the school. These rules and expectations are clear and fair. 
Children talk about the importance of following rules and how the rules keep everyone safe and happy. Children are able to talk about the consequences of poor behaviour or bad choices.
Children are taught right from wrong, both within PSHE lessons and as part of their daily conduct.
In school we have themed weeks and days which include anti bullying and online safety including cyber bullying and the consequences of it.

Individual liberty

Children are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. Through PSHE lessons and circle time, children are supported to develop their resilience, self-esteem and self-confidence.
